La Traversée
2024
2 drawings (pencil on paper)
Bianca Argimon grew up in the 90s, a decade of transition, rupture, paradox, beginning and end. The torn passage of a new spirit between two opposing worlds: the 80s, which ended with the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the 3rd millennium, which began with the collapse of the twin towers in New York. It’s a decade caught between the collapse of symbols, full of contradictions, and above all experienced as a countdown to the end of the world with the year 2000. Bianca Argimon’s work brings together popular entertainment, historical facts, art history and the socio-political events of her time. Often described as “socio-political satire”, her works are textless fables in which the eye is drawn in by the various interwoven elements and symbols, while taking on multiple forms, from pencil drawing to sculpture and installation. Sensitive to detail, the artist hijacks famous or iconic images, blending them with anecdotal elements and depicting the – often hidden – realities of our times. His works bring the viewer face to face with evidence that is as serious as it is funny.
When she comes to Chamonix, Bianca Argimon observes the human flows that criss-cross the town, the slopes and the summits. She pokes fun at the tourist clichés, the ibex on the mugs and the ballet of paragliders. While soaking up the Chamonix of 2024, and more
